Avalanche Gear

Anybody who decides to go on a winter backcountry excursion needs to properly equip themselves with some basic avalanche gear. Trips like these can be fun and quite enjoyable, but they can also go horribly wrong with little to no warning. This is why safety gear is so vitally important.

Out of every 100 victims caught in an avalanche, 50 of them will not survive, mainly due to asphyxiation. To help increase the chances of survival, experts recommend the Avalung as one of the most basic items of avalanche gear. These devices allow a buried avalanche victim to breathe while under the snow, greatly increasing their chances of being found alive.

Beacons are essential pieces of avalanche gear. These devices are the most surefire way to locate an avalanche victim. No one should ever leave on a backcountry trip without one of these beacons.
